Poaching Ideas

February 14, 2014 - Author: Amy

You ever come across an idea that someone else had and think, “MAN, I wish I had thought of that.”?

Me, too.

That happened when my mom helped Junior make this for me for Mother’s Day.

hands

See how his little hands make a heart?  So cute!

So what’d I do?  I straight poached the idea and then shared it on TV like it was my own.

Thanks, mom!

That segment is here.  And these are the only two I recorded, so I’ll stop making you watch them now.

And, since it’s Valentine’s Day and all, I just want to say how much I love you and appreciate your friendship, and leave you with this sweet sentiment that really spoke to me today.

Mini Scrooge

December 30, 2013 - Author: Amy

Hello, friends!

I hope you all had the merriest of holidays!

I just wanted to drop in real quick to say I’m not going to re-cap everything I ate or all the gifts we opened.  Suffice it to say we are blessed far beyond what we deserve, and we loved every minute we spent together, though someone isn’t great about showing it.  ;)

Third Christmas!

Hahaha…

Have a great New Years, friends!

I’ll be back soon with some projects we worked on over the holiday.  :)

RedEnvelope Cutting Board

December 11, 2013 - Author: Amy

After eating the Thanksgiving feast my mom single handedly made just weeks after a total hip replacement, dad and I sat down with a cup of freshly brewed coffee to relax and enjoy some pie.

Delicious pie that D made from scratch.

While he and my mom were in the kitchen cleaning up.

Suffice it to say that both my father and I married extremely well.

So recently, when I was generously contacted by RedEnvelope about some of their beautiful personalized products, my thoughts went more to D than to myself.  (Not because I’m all that selfless, but because I could see more chocolate pecan pies in my future.)  ;)

I thought to myself, hmmm…. pecan pies require pecans, which require chopping.  A cutting board, it is!

A very nice, cutting board, in fact!

redenvelope2

Beautifully personalized.

And durable!

D was just as impressed with the board, and loved the personal touch.

(D’s thumb of approval not pictured.)

If you’re still short on Christmas ideas, here’s a link to the wedding and anniversary section where this board came from.  Tons of great gifts!

Thanks bunches to RedEnvelope for such a beautiful gift.  I cannot WAIT to eat the pies this thing will help produce.  ;)

PS – I wasn’t paid for this post – just wanted to share the awesomeness!

Is Your House On Fire, Clark?

December 9, 2013 - Author: Amy

We’ve never been big on outdoor Christmas decorating.  I think mostly because D knows I’m not going to get out there and do it, and it’s always cold as Christmas balls so I don’t push him to.  (Very much.)

But we had a 60 degree Sunday recently and guess what?

Went straight Griswold.

Here’s something else you should know about.  The winter edition of Vintage KC magazine is out!  And it doesn’t disappoint.  D is officially getting mustache wax in his stocking this year.

Erin invited her local DIY bloggers to participate in a section again and provided mini Christmas trees for us to do with as we would.  The results were adorable.  Mine is below, but it really is worth clicking (or buying!) to check out the rest.

My take on an old-timey garland was to string cranberry and popcorn.  I’m happy with the classic, slightly rustic feel.

Also in the issue is some really beautiful inspiration for your Christmas parties this year.  I actually got to attend and enjoy all the stunning treats and decorations, and while there, catch up with a buddy from grad school!

That’s Kristen!  She has Hey Paul Studios, just the coolest and cutest stitchery of all time EVER!  Here’s a link to her blog and to her Etsy shop.  She’s also got a mini Christmas tree featured in the magazine.  I hope you’ll check out all three.

Look at me just handing out Christmas ideas!

Take a gander at Vintage KC, and let me know if you end up doing any of the great ideas therein, or if you end up with something from Hey Paul, I wanna see!

(I totally got one of these for my brother.)

Halloween Shenanigans

October 22, 2013 - Author: Amy

We were given the chance to go to an annual Halloween concert in Kansas City this past weekend.  It’s aptly named Freaker’s Ball.  (You can see last year’s costumes here.)

It was kind of a last minute decision to go this year, so the night before we ran to Tar-jay for some eyeliner, lipstick, false eyelashes, and yellow hairspray.

Please, tell me you’re familiar with Roy Lichtenstein’s work.. Otherwise your reaction might be “whaaaaaa”.

We’re comic strips!  Get it??

Pop Art Make Up

And it was surprisingly simple.  Just cover your face in foundation a couple shades lighter than your skin, outline the important planes of your face with eyeliner, add in white highlights where you want them before coloring in with lipstick (or blue eye shadow pencil for the tear).  I used the fat kind of eye shadow pencil for the dots.  Glue on some falsies and spray paint your hair.

If you clicked on last year’s link, you saw we were with my brother and sister in law who go all out – Jack the Ripper and a dead hooker last year.  This year?  The Joker and Harley Quinn.

Here’s me and Harley.  (Check out that venue!)

And The Joker!  Yikes!

I just love Halloween.

Are you guys all geared up?  Costumes ready?

I don’t want to give too much away, but Junior is all set.  His costume involves wings and feathers and rhymes with “schmowl”.

Can’t wait to see what all you do!

The Best Way to Spread Christmas Cheer…

December 7, 2012 - Author: Amy

… Is singing loud for all to hear.

Unless you are me.  Then you just spread ear pain.

What I’m trying to say is, we are decorated.

And I love it.

I am so grateful that we will have at least one Christmas here.

Even though Junior might not remember it,

D and I will never forget it.
