A Couple of Things

February 7, 2014 - Author: Amy

Howdy friends,

Remember the silhouette’s I made for Junior’s room?

Of course you do.  How could you ever forget something so life altering?

Our local news station caught wind of my artistic genius and invited me to share a couple of crafts for their new segment for moms.

Watch it here.

And don’t make fun of my accent, because I totally don’t have one.

~

In other news, my newest Ideabook is up and running on Houzz if you’re interested.  It’s about as Valentines-y as I get, which means no tack or glitter.

~

And now I’ll leave you to your weekends.  Looks like we’ll be adding to the 14 inches of snow we got over the last couple of days!

Tiny Bathroom

November 4, 2013 - Author: Amy

Hello friends!

Today I’d like to share with you the story of the tiniest bathroom in the history of bathrooms.

Our house actually has three levels, but our aversion to social interaction keeps our guests mostly on the main floor where there is one – tiny – bathroom.

Not only is it teeny-weeny, it was utterly nondescript.

Aside from the pencil scrawls on the wall left behind by the builder, of course.

And did you catch the built-in magazine rack?  I ask you, who goes over to their friend’s house to leisurely poop?

Anyhow, it suddenly hit me that it would take almost no time to spruce up the little space, so I grabbed a can of Behr’s Restless Sea and a roll of Frog Tape.

NEVER AGAIN, FROG TAPE!!!  ~Shakes fist indignantly~

I am, however, pleased with the rest of the room.

Do you love my J.D. Challenger print?  Or would it, ahem, assist you in your evacuations?  (Notice we lost the magazine rack – didn’t think you’d need to just be chilling in there.)

The sweet buffalo skull my FIL got us finally found a home, I already had the little goat hide, and I grabbed the faux bittersweet wreath at Michael’s for half off.

Bing, bang, boom.

How was your weekend/Halloween?

Some of you had some very good guesses as to Junior’s costume (with my hint of “it rhymes with schmowl”) namely “trowel” and “bowel”, but alas, he was a little owl.

Hope the happy little owls in your life had a fun Halloween!

Play Room

July 22, 2013 - Author: Amy

Something happened to me this weekend.

After three months of general malaise regarding the state of our house, a sudden inferno lit itself under my butt and this:

became intolerable.

So I hauled everything out and painted the walls the same color as the living room.  While that dried, I took his little Thomas the Train table apart and painted the main part the same blue as our front door and the play surface with chalk paint.

While I let both the table and the walls dry, we went out for ice cream.  During which time, Bill felt the need to stand directly over the newly chalk-painted table top and drool.  So it’s got some neat water marks now.  >:(

Also during that time the following conversation was had.

Me: What color are your eyes?

Jr.: Blue!

Me: What color are daddy’s eyes?

Jr.: Blue!

Me: What color are mommy’s eyes?

Jr.: Black!

D: Just like her soul……

Feeling the love, boys.  Gracias.

Then it was just a matter of moving everything back in, with a few additions.

Rug from previous house.

playroom5

Newly painted table, mini cow hide arm chair, “dream big, little one” art from Hobby Lobby.

playroom6

Old church pew I bought at a flea market that D re-stained.  Four baskets that fit under the pew perfectly, and actually hold all Junior’s crap.  Map art also from Hobby Lobby, and tin bucket thing for books.

And since we already had every bit of this, minus the chalk paint which my MIL loaned me, I can actually say I got all this done in a day for zero doll hairs.

~pats self on back~

Then I was all “LOOK AT ME, I DID THIS ALL BY MYSELF!!!”

D: *coughs politely* Except for the taking down and re-hanging of the sconces.  And carrying the pew downstairs.

LOOK AT ME!  I DID THIS ALMOST ALL BY MYSELF!!!

I Did Some Stuff.

July 19, 2013 - Author: Amy

When we moved in, our living room looked like this.

befo

Bor-ring.

So I painted and we bought a few new pieces.

DSC_0001

I have more stuffs in mind to buy, but not until I find the EXACT ones I want.  ie: cow hide, cool trunk turned coffee table, antique sofa for the wall behind me.  You know.  The usual.

DSC_0002

Oh, and art.  Art on the walls.

DSC_0003

So far, it’s Bill approved.  But only because I haven’t put a table in his resting area yet.

DSC_0004

Paint color is Behr’s Rolling Pepple.  Chairs are courtesy of Nebraska Furniture Mart.  Throw pillows, table, pouf, and lamp are all from that glorious love of my life, Target.  And curtains are from it’s awkward step-brother, Kohl’s.

So anyway, that’s that for now.  I’m alive and slowly, slowly prettifying the crib.

Next up?  The sun/play room.

Oy.

Nuttin Honey

May 24, 2013 - Author: Amy

Do you remember those commercials?

“Whatcha eatin?”  “Nuttin honey.”

But clearly he IS eating something so the wife beans him in the head for his lies… Ha… classic.

That’s what we’ve gotten accomplished at the house.  Nuttin.  Unless you count painting one half of one room.  We chose at random and started in the dining room.  In retrospect, maybe not the best choice since it’s one of the first things you see when you walk in.

Front of house.

Right inside front door.

Look left.

Yeahhhh….

After some debate, we left the wainscoting white.  We changed the color on the top mostly because she had just left so many holes and scuffs on the walls that we have to patch and therefore re-paint everything whether we really want to or not.

Here is my version of a before and after.

nothing4

Wall on left: Before.  Wall on right: After.  Man with nice arms: Taken.

The man with nice arms is also actually going to be building different legs for the dining room table.  You see the old ones in the picture above.  They’re really pretty, but they have those squiggley pieces that prevent chairs from being pushed all the way in.  And I bought new chairs – two banquettes, actually.  One is sitting in a box in the dining room.  The other is sitting in a box at the top of the stairs.

nothing3

We classy.

I still have my eye twitch.  It has been literal weeks and it is making me mental.  You guys DIY everything.  What is a freaking remedy for this??  (Aside from cutting stress or caffeine.  I don’t know how to have less of either.)

I like this song.  (If you click on that, sorry about the buttcheeks.)  Videos with bikers always make me titter a little bit because they look so tough, but my parents are bikers and you’ve never met a nicer, more clean cut set of Republicans.

What are you guys doing for Memorial Day?  I’m cutting my hair off and then going to see Cheap Trick.  Ohhhhh yes I am.
