Literally.
D works a weird schedule sometimes, as he is on call most of the time.
That fact + a baby = extra thick bedroom walls in the new house.
Extra thick bedroom walls + a baby = a mama worried I wouldn’t be able to hear him.
Enter the baby monitor.
Junior is usually a really good sleeper – always has been. We are very lucky like that. But on his first night in the new house, he woke up and cried and daddy went to him. On the second night, he woke up and cried and mommy went to him.
Except mommy wasn’t as familiar with the new lay of the land as I thought I was. We are kind of in the boonies and our little road has no street lights. Our exterior lights aren’t in yet, and apparently what neighbors we do have don’t believe in them.
It was dark in there, yo.
So I’m zombie walking my way through the house, following the sound of Junior, when.. literally.. I hit a wall.
The scene of the crime.
I stand there dumbfounded for a minute or two thinking “I know we didn’t put a door on the hallway.”
“…Did we?”
With that thought, I fumble around for a doorknob to no avail. Not knowing what else to do, I turn around to go back the way I came to make D help me find Junior’s room at which point I see the glow from Junior’s monitor. Gotta be close.
Uh, yeah. I was close, all right.
By the time I rounded the corner, Junior had already fallen back to sleep.
Mommy Fail.

Bwahahaha! We’ve all been there, even in a familiar house it happens.
Hahahaha! Oh my goodness! Maybe you should get a flashlight
That is too funny! Maybe a few hall nightlights wouldn’t be a bad idea.
hahahaha, that is too funny – completely made my morning. don’t worry, I fall down my steps all the time and I’m very familiar with them.
Ahaha, oh dear.
Ouch! Maybe keep a flashlight on your nightstand (although, even with that, I think bumping into things is inevitable when you’re woken up during the middle of the night!)?
That is hilarious!! Thanks for making me bust out laughing.
I’m laughing with you though, this is something I would do!
On a bright note since he went back to sleep by himself, maybe he’ll realize he is okay there & start sleeping through the night again.
Time for nightlights!
gf you have to be like me and use your cell as a flashlight! or just get a nightlight. Haha
oh amy that is so funny!!! but hey, the baby put himself back to sleep- success!
Hahaha, oh man! I feel so bad you bumped into the wall, but yay for Junior self-soothing and falling back asleep!
haha too funny well not that funny that you hit a wall, but you know what i mean!
SO FUNNY! That’s a great story. Thanks for the laugh
Hahahaha, is right!!! Poor wall.
Too bad for you that I didn’t pass on my night vision ;P (P.S. You’re an awesome Momma)
That’s a fantastic story! Thanks for the laugh- that is totally something I would do. Have a great weekend Amy!
Bahahahaah! You hit a wall. Hahahahah Sorry for laughing so hard…hahahahahah I can’t help myself. Hahahahahahah ~just teasing ya~
hahaha oh Amy….that’s great!! You’ll figure it all out soon enough.
haha! this totally sounds like something i would do… at least he fell back asleep
It always takes a while to get settled into a new place. But please, Amy, don’t beat yourself up that he was back to sleep before you got there. In my day (now I sound old), we didn’t even have baby monitors, so the child was wide awake before we even heard them.
Just enjoy this newness. I’m just happy you’re in so that you CAN hit yourself on an unfamiliar wall.
I just love to read your blogs, you are a very interesting writer. So many talents!!!
Oh my gosh, Amy! That’s hilarious, in a not-so-funny kind of way. I can just picture you wondering through the dark trying to find your way, lol. At least Junior fell asleep while you were on your adventure through the dark. Hope you get to installing an exterior light soon, or just get one of those cheap nightlights and plug it in the hall way
~Lisha
Ha! I’ve done that! Although it included walking into a mirror (don’t tell it was super embarrassing!)

Ha! At least you didn’t break something (the wall or your toe). Time for some night lights!
I’m not laughing at you, I’m laughing with you, right? What a cute story. He’ll laugh about that one one day too!
I shalt not laugh.
~Bliss~
Too funny!! I’m glad he fell back asleep, but sorry you hit the wall hahaha!! (better than stubbing your toe on something!)
HA! Cute story. It won’t belong before you are all settled in and know the layout of your new home like the back of your hand.
That’s funny!! Well, problem solved right? Haha.
Haha. This made me laugh. Been there!
Hahaha! Watch out for that wall
HA ! Maybe you should get one of those headlamps miners wear, or ya know, just a flashlight I guess would do!
