A few weeks ago, I showed you a steal of a deal I got on a driftwood mirror from Kohl’s.
They really sucked me in with that deal – let me tell you what. The project I’m sharing today also started on a Kohl’s clearance rack.
But between my driftwood mirror post, and the one I’m showing you today, I heard from Kohl’s who were kind enough to offer you, my readers 10% off at Kohls.com! Just use the code UBLOGTEN. It’s good till midnight tonight, so happy shopping!
As for my project, I’d been keeping an eyeball out for a tray, thanks to Karah and her “Eat, drink, and be married” tray.
And lo and behold, but what did I spy?!
Yes, that’s a glass of merlot. I’m really not so lushy as it seems – this was the same glass I was on when making the punkins. No! Really!!
And on the back ‘o the tray?
Yesssss……
It’s no secret that I’m dying for fall to get here, and already in a Halloweeny mood, so that’s the direction I wanted to go with my tray. I got some stencil letters at Walmart and taped them on.
And using the same can of Rustoleum in “cinnamon”, I started to spray.
Whoooooops.
Plan B.
I left the bottom black, reattached the letters, and traced them instead.
I started out just using a sharpie, but it didn’t cover quite as well as I wanted, so I switched to a ceramic pen I had on hand, and it worked much better.
The spots I added…. because I had to. I was recklessly shaking my pen to get the juice flowing and it caused some splatter. Whooooops again.
A couple bumps in the road, but I’m happy with the final product. And so is “Thing” from the Addams Family who came over to Vanna White for me.

Gosh! You’re getting so crafty! I love it! You know….these would be great “Cousin, just because I love you” gifts…
While that project is awesome and I’m sure Lisa is probably planning on purchasing pumpkins as I type this, I’m deperately trying to hold on to my fading summer. Too soon, too soon.
It turned out cute; way to have a plan B
I am definitely ready for Fall!
Cuteness! Like John, I’m really trying not to think of fall. I think i’m going to keep living in denial for the next week until September starts
I like it sprayed the cinnamon color!
Amy,
Kohl’s should hire you! I loved that mirror and I love your cute tray! I can’t wait for fall!
blessings,
karianne
Very cute! I think I may prefer the tray in orange and with black spots. Yay for happy accidents!
The splatters give it even MORE character! What a fortunate accident!
Everything happens for a reason.
It looks great!
Ooh, I really like the spots. I think Plan B turned out pretty good!
I picked up these two metal tray things at sales yesterday only because they were orange. Now I’m thinking they need to be Boo-ized.

So cute!! Your house is going to have the best Fall decorations!
Look at you getting all crafty!! I really like the tray in that cinnamon colour- I think that was a great accident along with those black dots!
And good for you for getting that discount for your readers! Moving up in the blog world!
Mistake, or no mistake…I actually LOVE the black splatter on it! I think it really finishes the tray off perfectly. You are just so darn crafty.
And you are making me want fall more and more!!
Love it!! I think the splatter, even thought it was an oops extra, makes it look really cute!
I’m with the others who are living in denial of fall but for a different reason: fall means winter and I HATE midwest winters…
I Love it, thanks so much for the shout out. Pinning!
So cute! I actually like it better in orange. The letters almost look cutout!
LOL you’re KILLING me with the Fall projects! This is too stinking cute, Amy! Yay for Kohls… have to jump online and see if there’s anything we “need”.
xo Heidi
Haha, this is how all my attempts at stenciling turn out. But the end product is so cute!
Wow, you’re really ready for halloween already aren’t you? I think plan B worked out just fine! Good job.
Love your Thing from Addams family!
And the spots are my favorite part of all! And I know what you mean with the reckless shaking of the paint pen splatter issue …
… been there done that!
Linda
LoL…a lot of whooops! But it turned out really cute!
So cute! Did the Merlot cause all those ooops?
Thanks for that Kohl’s deal too girl!
You’re turning into quite the crafter.
Love how the tray turned out. Bring it, Fall!
This tuned out really cute! I can’t believe that fall Is nearly here.
Love it! Such a great idea!
I should be spending more time at Khols apparently…
Fall, here I come! You’re getting me in the mood (but I will miss my flip flops)!

Ok, I’m with you now. I was trying to enjoy the last bit of summer but I’m officially OVER. SUMMER. I started on my fall front porch and now I’m itching to carve punkins! Your tray is great and is getting me even more excited for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Pumpkin Pie, Wool Sweaters, Leather Jackets, Jeans….I could go on.
I love the final product. I would totes screw it up too and be crabby about it, but at least you thought of a quick alternative!
Good save(s) with the spray paint, the ceramic pen, and the polka dots. I can’t believe fall is almost here, my daughter started kindergarten today, eek!
Jessica
