Homemade Body Scrub

October 23, 2012 - Author: Amy - 19 Comments

I don’t know about you guys, but my skin gets terribly dry around this time of year.  I can slather on lotion all the live long day, and still feel icky.  I looked up a few home remedies and got several variations of the same idea, so I went with what I had in my pantry.

Raw oatmeal, brown sugar, olive oil, vanilla.

Mix equal parts except for the vanilla, which I only added for the olfactory value.

Scrub a dub dub, rinse and repeat.

(D – sorry I made your breakfast into a body scrub.)

How I felt before awesome home remedy:

And how I felt after awesome home remedy:

It worked!  It felt great, it exfoliated, moisturized, made me smell edible, and I still felt the effects this morning.

Try it, I say!  Or do you have a better recipe you’d like to share with the class?

(PS – I totally just spelled “better” like “bedder”.  My words come out phonetically way more often than is probably normal.)

  1. Sparkly Amy!

I tried an oatmeal rub a while back and it was amazing. I like the sound of the brown sugar and vanilla. Sounds delicious :)

  2. I too have gross winter skin probably akin to that of the crypt keeper. I should give this a try! I’d love to look like Edward (minus the whole he’s a boy thing).

  3. ME TOO! The heat is on in my car, and in my house, and my skin feels like H.E. double toothpicks! I will try this later today! Thanks for posting!

I make scrubs every once in a while but I have never tried it with oatmeal. I will throw some in next time!

  5. Tales from the Crypt is that even still around… GAH!

ummm..Amy. It turned you into a dude! & now I want oatmeal cookies. lol

  7. I think it’s awesome you try to make your own remedies. THEN I nearly laughed out loud when I saw Mr. Tales from the Crypt Keeper. It’s been AGES since I’ve seen that show on tv, and it was so cool too. :)

  8. You’re hilarious.
I think I will give this recipe a go!

  9. This looks great! I think you look remarkably better- so sparkley!! Thanks for sharing!

  10. Amy, you’re glowing! ;) I’m definitely going to try have to making some scrub of my own because I swear the heat has turned my skin into a lizards skin – yuck!

  11. This sounds like something fun to try. Especially if it leaves me glowing like Edward!

  12. That first picture! hahahha!!
I’ve started using the Coconut Butter Body Scrub & Lotions from the body shop and they are amazing! They even keep my legs smooth for an entire extra day after shaving! Awesome in my book.
I bet your scrub smells delicious though!

  13. Haha; poor D has no breakfast now!
I’ve made some with just sugar, but I’ll have to try with oatmeal :)

  14. Hahaha! Love the before and afters!

  15. hahahaha… you crack me up. I’ll have to try this. not only does it take off the dry skin apparently it can make you immortal!

  16. I’m not sure about the whole turning into a sparkly vampire…but I have grown to trust you.

  17. Doesn’t get much better than finding a solution in your own cabinets! Luckily, I don’t get too dry in the winter, but it’s probably because I use these little exfoliation glove things when I shower (they cost me maaaaybe $2 at the grocery store) and I slather on lotion every day. Hmmmmm.

  18. I hate dry, winter skin. We have to sleep with a humidifier it’s so bad. This stuff looks delicious and moisturizing!

The best part is that if you get hungry while you’re exfoliating, you have a tasty snack too! Will have to give this a try.
