These Buffalo Are Roaming

If I know one thing in life to be true, it is that things will never happen as you plan.

For instance: Building your dream home, living in it for six months, then moving out of it.

We’re moving.

It’s still hard to believe!

My D got a new job.  It’s with the same company, but he was offered the chance to be in a supervisory position.  It’s a big step for him, and one that he really deserved.  We could hardly say no.

His new position is in Kansas City, about an hour away from where we live right now, so that means a relocation.  My job is in Topeka, and I want to keep it, so we are moving to Lawrence, Kansas to split the commute.

Of course this decision comes with a bag of mixed feelings.  We chose our current spot very specifically; we are near both sets of our parents, we felt good about the school district, we’ve got land, and gosh darn it.. we bled, sweat, and cried over that house.

Yet in spite of all that, I find myself excited for the next step.  Another thing I know to be true: God would not have asked us to make this change if he didn’t have better things in store.

The appraisals are complete, the realtor has been chosen, D has a start date.

These buffalo are roaming.

Exciting Times and My Little Leprechaun

It is so much fun going to the house now, because every time I do, something new and exciting has happened.

D found these doors on Craigslist.  They were salvaged out of a country club in Kansas City.

We bought two sets.  This is going in to the media room, off the living room.  And the other set will go between our master bedroom and bath.

The eagle has an “M” etched into the frosted glass which is perfect, because that happens to be the initial of our last name.  :)

The trim is in, and D and dad worked on staining that this weekend.

And perhaps most exciting for me is the cabinets and granite!  Junior’s bathroom:

And the kitchen!  The cabinet doors are on.

The open spaces from left are open shelving, refrigerator, dishwasher, double ovens.  And the sink is in the corner.

And the island is set, and it will house the cook top and the microwave.

And the granite!  The glorious, beautiful, veiny granite.

I didn’t know what those wires were for, but D informed me that they’re a telephone jack and cable.  Fancy!  Now I can watch American Pickers cook right along with Bobby Flay.

So we had a very productive weekend, but Junior, my mom and I did get the chance to sneak away to attend a St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Getting bored.

Over it.

How was your weekend?  Did you kiss any Irish?  I totally did.. thank goodness I’m married to him.  ;)

Snowpocalypse!

We got our first real snow of the season around here, and people are losing their minds!  We have had the most mild winter I can ever remember, and I think that in the year we’ve been without snow, everyone has completely forgotton what it looks like and how to drive in it.  Kansas City cancelled 150 schools.  HAH!

I took a picture out of my office window to show you the horror – oh the horror!

That’s a good solid inch and a half, my friends.  Pray for us here in Kansas… Even though the high tomorrow is 52.  hehehe…

Back to building houses.

Most boring first:

Our ceilings were shot.  Whee.

The durarock stuff is on the fireplace so we can finish making it pretty.

And the walls in the garage are up.

I’m surprisingly fond of this space.

It reminds me of the Cracker Barrell.

We are painting it gray.  Isn’t that a pretty shade?  Love it with the wood.

How was your weekend?  Did the snowpocalypse hit you as hard as it did us?  ;)
